Denver Broncos keep beefing up defensive line in 2022 mock draft

3b (from Rams): Phidarian Mathis, DL, Alabama

At least in the 2022 offseason, I would argue the Denver Broncos need to prioritize the entire defensive front seven, not just the EDGE or off-ball linebacker position.

The defensive line needs more able bodies and players who can impact games in a more drastic way than the current group is. Right now, the Broncos have a lot of players who do their job really well, but you know what you’re getting with a number of those guys.

A player like Phidarian Mathis of Alabama in round three would be outstanding for Denver in helping those edge guys avoid a lot of double team situations.

Mathis has a forced fumble in each of the last three seasons and he’s been a four-year contributor to the Crimson Tide defense.

This year, he has 6.0 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss along with a ton of quarterback pressures.

While the Cameron Thomas pick gives you someone who can play closer to the edge and more of the 5 or 4T on the defensive line, Mathis gives you more of the interior player who can hold up as a 1-3T.

Versatility is a must in today’s NFL.
