Denver Broncos rookie cornerback Patrick Surtain has been rewarded following his performance in last Week 12.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain continues to improve and showed how dominant he can be during the team’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 12. He has received some well-deserved recognition from the day.

Surtain is your Defensive Player of the Week for Week 12.

Surtain made four tackles in the win and while that was fourth on the team with cornerback Kyle Fuller leading with eight, it was Surtain’s two interceptions that sealed the deal and earned him the award.

Surtain intercepted Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert in the end zone which gave the Broncos the football at the 20-yard line. He also picked Herbert off and returned it for a Denver Broncos touchdown, helping the team with a 28-13 victory.

Suddenly, Denver is still in the division race and Surtain has been a tremendous help for the team.

Many people seem to have been questioning the team’s decision to draft Surtain with the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. That’s because they felt that the Broncos should have taken one of the quarterbacks still left on the board—Justin Fields and Mac Jones.

I understand that an upgrade at quarterback is wanted but Sunday’s win was proof that you don’t always need a top-tier quarterback at the helm. This team prides itself on defense and running the football and those are two things that they did well with against the Chargers. It’s just a matter of finding the right matchups and whatnot.

Surtain is proving that he was the right pick and I strongly believe that he has more to show the Denver Broncos and Broncos Country. He’s been a joy to watch as a rookie and with some of the team’s starters in Kyle Fuller and Bryce Callahan potentially hitting free agency following the season, the Broncos will want to see even more from the young guy.
