Denver Broncos have opportunity to end Chiefs’ December streak
The Kansas City Chiefs are nearly unstoppable in the month of December. It is time the Denver Broncos challenge this stigma and upset the Chiefs.
After the humiliating loss the Denver Broncos suffered at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles two weeks ago, it felt as if the 2021 season could officially be lost. Just a week after such a dominating win over the Dallas Cowboys, the Broncos simply looked out of sorts, and the Eagles were able to capitalize.
Inconsistency has seemed to be the MO for the Denver Broncos thus far, and continued to show itself when coming out of the bye week, the Broncos defeated the divisional rival Los Angeles Chargers in dominating fashion, especially on the defensive side of things.
If the Broncos want to right the ship, they can prove they can play more consistent football right now, and they have a great opportunity as they head to Arrowhead on Sunday Night Football to take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s time for the Denver Broncos to end some Chiefs streaks
Of course, Broncos Country is familiar with the stigma of playing the Chiefs on the road in December. Arrowhead Stadium is a tough place to win; it is nearly impossible in the month of December.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of the Broncos’ road games against the Chiefs are always scheduled in December, and recent history has not been kind to the Denver Broncos on this front.
However, the Denver Broncos could make a big stand in the AFC West and in the playoff race on Sunday night as they take on the Chiefs in what is now a battle for first place in the division. They could accomplish something that not only the Broncos have been unable to achieve, but the rest of the league as well–beat the Chiefs in December.
Broncos Country already knows the Kansas City Chiefs are dominant in the month of December, but according to Statmuse, the Chiefs have the best overall record in December out of any franchise and have finished 4-0 during the month 13 times.
Between the 2020 and 2019 seasons, the Chiefs have a combined record of 9-0, which means they are riding a nearly 10-game win streak in the month of December. It would be a huge victory for the Denver Broncos to not allow that streak to reach 10.
Since Super Bowl 50, the Kansas City Chiefs have bullied around the rest of the AFC West, and though they certainly hit a skid in 2021, it looks as if they are priming to reach top form once again and be a significant playoff threat- all the more reason for the Broncos to come in and prove they have what it takes to finally take down the Chiefs after a six-year drought.
It certainly is a tall order, and odds may be against the Denver Broncos between playing the Chiefs in the month of December and on the road. However, if this team has taught us anything this year, it’s that we can never count them out.
December is the season of giving, and it is time the Denver Broncos gave the Kansas City Chiefs a loss.
