The Denver Broncos got some much-needed positive injury updates following the team’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers with the Chiefs on deck.
The Denver Broncos haven’t really been able to get out of a victory unscathed this season, and their win against the Los Angeles Chargers was no different.
Calvin Anderson, the team’s top swing tackle on offense, had to be carted off the field with an injury. He’s expected to miss some time, but head coach Vic Fangio gave an update that the injury doesn’t appear to be overly serious, even if Anderson misses some time.
Aside from the injury to Anderson, the Broncos lost left guard Dalton Risner during the game and both Melvin Gordon and Teddy Bridgewater were dinged up early, though both returned.
Broncos getting healthy before AFC West showdown with Chiefs
Even with some dings and bruises (in Teddy Bridgewater’s case, literally) during the game, the Broncos are getting some significant reinforcements just in time for their first real primetime game this season.
Yes, I’m aware they played on Thursday Night Football against the Browns. That one barely counts.
The Sunday night game against the Chiefs will be the biggest of the year for Denver, and by a mile. The Broncos have had some must-win games leading up to this one, and if they didn’t win those games, this matchup vs. Patrick Mahomes and company would be another meaningless one.
With that being said, the Broncos have a meaningful December matchup in Kansas City for the first time in what feels like forever, and first place in the AFC West is on the line.
With six games to play, what more could you ask for than to come out of Kansas City with a win and possession of first place in the division?
Left tackle Garett Bolles, who has missed time due to injury and now being on the COVID list, has a good chance to return this week.
Right tackle Bobby Massie, who has also been out a couple of weeks, should be back this week barring any setbacks.
Safety Kareem Jackson missed this game with a shoulder injury he suffered against the Eagles, but he will be back against the Chiefs as well.
Dalton Risner, who suffered a back injury against the Chargers, should be “okay” according to Fangio.
Not to mention, how soon could we be seeing players like Bryce Callahan get back to work? Will Essang Bassey see an expanded role? What about Michael Ojemudia?
Denver Broncos studs and duds: Baron Browning shines in big win
The Denver Broncos got a huge victory at home coming out of the bye week over the Los Angeles Chargers. Who stood out in this game whether good or bad?
The Broncos are getting healthy at exactly the right time, and with Bradley Chubb coming back and playing this past week, the Chiefs are going to get about as healthy and loaded of a Broncos team as they have faced in the post-Peyton Manning era.
