Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick has been a model of consistency for an offense that has struggled to find success in recent years.

The bye week blues are over for the Denver Broncos as the team re-signed wide receiver Tim Patrick to a three-year contract. The news was first broken by Broncos insider Mike Klis of 9News in Denver.

Patrick, who was originally signed by the Denver Broncos as a practice squad player, has been the subject of one rumor after another. We’ve speculated on his roster status in general, whether or not he could be traded, or whether he should be a player prioritized to keep around by new general manager George Paton.

It appears that Paton agrees with the sentiment many in Broncos Country shared: Tim Patrick deserved a new deal from the Broncos.

Broncos News: Tim Patrick gets a three-year contract extension

Tim Patrick will turn 29 years old soon, and this deal will take him to the end of his age 32 season. We’ll see if it gets to that point, but for the time being, the Broncos have locked in a player who has been one of the team’s only consistent and reliable sources of offensive production over the last couple of years.

In the 25 games Patrick has played since the start of the 2020 season, he’s caught 88 passes for 1,265 yards (14.4 yards per reception) with 10 touchdowns and zero dropped passes.

I’d say that’s worthy of a new deal.

Patrick is one of the great success stories in the NFL, overcoming the odds to even make it out of his rookie NFL training camp after he suffered a compound fracture to his left leg while at Utah.

Getting to Utah was no walk in the park for Patrick, either. He started off his collegiate career at Grossmont College, a community college in California, where he played both football and basketball before getting an opportunity at Utah.

It’s been a long and winding road for Tim Patrick, and I’m sure that makes this mountaintop moment even sweeter for him. Not to mention, he gets a big payday right before his birthday? It can’t get much better for a pro athlete.

Like Shelby Harris before him, Tim Patrick is a player who was the NFL version of a “nobody” before he got to the Denver Broncos, and now has signed a hefty contract extension. The Broncos saw Patrick’s potential, they developed him, gave him opportunities, and he’s turned that into more than just being a role player for the team. Patrick has become a legitimate stud NFL receiver.

Although the Broncos went into the bye week with a very sour taste in their mouths, George Paton has given everyone a reason to be very excited by re-signing Tim Patrick and making sure he will be in the fold for the foreseeable future.

Who will be throwing him passes in 2022 and beyond? Who knows?

The great news is, with the franchise tag available for Courtland Sutton — if need be — the Broncos can now return their entire core of receivers and tight ends for the 2022 season.
