Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said on Monday the team will not bench quarterback Teddy Bridgewater coming back from the bye week.

I’m sure that a lot of people not going to agree with Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio’s decision to stick with Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback following the team’s bye week. We’re all upset about the lack of wins lately and the apparent lack of effort.

There needs to be accountability. However, would benching Bridgewater for Drew Lock make that much of a difference at this point? I’m not so sure. You still have the same offensive coordinator in Pat Shurmur, who has been very bad. While Shurmur didn’t coach on Sunday due to COVID-19, the fact remains the same.

We also pretty much know what Drew Lock is at this point, and while both he and Bridgewater had some nice performances in the preseason in their competition, it’s not like you’re discovering the next Russell Wilson (remember Matt Flynn-Russell Wilson outcome?).

There really are no greater options at this point. Otherwise, the Denver Broncos would have figured that out behind the scenes.

The quarterback is the guy with the target on his back, and while he does have the ball most of the time, Bridgewater is not the only issue on this team. It’s the offensive coordinator situation. It’s penalties. It’s the play calling that has a pass-catcher catch a ball right on the line of scrimmage and ultimately getting tackled right away.

While Bridgewater can make better reads on those sorts of things, you just cannot have these types of plays in your playbook if they’re not working. They’re clearly not working.

Bridgewater has shown some flashes of positive reads throughout the year but by no means has he been great. I just think that with no better option this season, they may as well keep going with him and figure it out in the offseason.

I do believe that things will continue to remain the same throughout the course of the 2021 season and some personnel changes, including coaches, will be let go. Then, the next regime will find their preferred quarterback.

It’s ugly right now, Broncos Country, but at some point, it will be better. This form of Broncos football has been ugly. It’s been ugly for the last five seasons. A lot will be known by who the team chooses as its next coach and starting quarterback. It’s not time to be patient with this season at this point. It’s time to be patient for the offseason, unfortunately.
