Riding that emotional roller coaster that the Denver Broncos put fans on, fans of the team got to experience another low in Week 10.
Coming off their best win in the Vic Fangio era against the Dallas Cowboys, the Broncos welcomed the 3-6 Philadelphia Eagles to Empower Field. The Eagles looked more like a 6-3 team as they beat the Broncos pretty handily, 30-13.
The Eagles absolutely gashed the Broncos with their rushing attack, using a combination of Boston Scott and Jordan Howard to rush for over 200 yards on the ground. Quarterback Jalen Hurts added 56 yards rushing himself.
For the Broncos, they seemed to be playing from behind from the opening kickoff and trying to play catch up all day. They hung tough in the first half, but the game changed in the third quarter on a fumble by Melvin Gordon.
Trailing 20-13 and trying to stay in the game, the Broncos faced a 4th-and-1 play from the Eagles’ 23-yard line. Gordon took a handoff and was wrapped up around the first-down marker but the ball popped free and was tracked down by Philadelphia defensive back Darius Slay who then ran the other way for an 83-yard touchdown.
That came just moments after an interception by Justin Simmons threatened to swing momentum into the favor of the Broncos. However, Denver never recovered from this blow.
The Broncos went three-and-out on their next two possessions, gaining a total of four yards on those six plays.
It was a disappointing loss for the team as the Los Angeles Chargers also lost on Sunday and with the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs playing each other on Sunday Night Football, the Broncos gave up a golden chance to rise to the top of the division.
Broncos will have their bye in Week 11 before facing the Chargers
Instead, they’ll stay at the bottom.
Teddy Bridgewater did not throw a touchdown pass on the day and passed for just 226 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per completion. He threw short of the first-down chains on several conversion attempts and the Broncos’ offense looked like the one that many teams have easily shut down.
The Broncos will now head into their bye week where they will need to take in some rest before coming out in Week 12 for what will be a huge divisional matchup against the Chargers.
