How many people had the Denver Broncos just steamrolling the Dallas Cowboys this week?
Not even the most devout Broncos fans would have predicted this. The Cowboys were hitting on all cylinders and many saw them as the best team in the NFC, even winning a game with their backup quarterback last week.
But none of that mattered to the Broncos, who came into AT&T Stadium and just absolutely obliterated the Cowboys by a final score of 30-16. The game was not nearly as close as that score indicates.
The Broncos still have not lost to the Cowboys since 1995, a streak most thought would come to an end this week.
As Chris Berman always used to famously say on ESPN, “that’s why they play the games”.
The Broncos started strong in this one, stopping the Cowboys on two fourth-down conversion attempts early in the game. That set the tone and Teddy Bridgewater had another solid outing leading the offense.
Bridgewater completed 19 of 28 passes for 249 yards and a touchdown. He did not turn the ball over. Javonte Williams added to the impressive outing with 111 yards on the ground, the first 100-yard game of his career.
Defensively, the Broncos played a great game. They shut Dak Prescott and the rest of the Cowboys’ high-powered offense down almost completely. Statistically, things didn’t look that bad for the Cowboys, but most of what they were able to accomplish came during trash time.
This is the kind of performance that could get Vic Fangio off the hot seat
The Broncos led 30-0 at what point in the game and the result was never really in doubt.
For all of the flack that Vic Fangio and his staff gets, much of it quite deserved, he had his team ready for this game and this was easily the most impressive performance of his coaching stint in Denver.
With the win, the Broncos improve to 5-4 on the season and could be looking at the rest of the year in a whole new light. They will now head home to face the Philadelphia Eagles next week.
