Diontae Spencer, Wide receiver

I have long been against the Broncos keeping Diontae Spencer on the roster and was shocked when the team chose to cut most of the receivers on the depth chart in training camp and keep him on the final roster.

Of course, that decision is made almost entirely due to Spencer’s ability to return kicks. But when teams boot the kickoff out of the end zone more than half of the time these days, why are you keeping a return specialist around?

On top of that, he hasn’t been that great in that department either.

On the season, he has returned 11 kickoffs for 198 yards, an average of 18 yards per return. The team could get that from basically anyone they put back there.

He also has one catch for a loss of three yards. Think back to the game in Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Broncos, pushing for a tying score, had Teddy Bridgewater throwing a fade route into the end zone to Spencer. Talk about maddening.

The Broncos are simply way too high on this guy and it seems that better options at wide receiver would have made much more sense when the season kicked off.
