3 bad reasons the Broncos will probably pass on Odell Beckham Jr.
1. The Broncos, at 4-4, should be packing it in
The Denver Broncos should not be “packing it in” this season.
This team, despite the Von Miller trade, is not in rebuilding mode.
The core of the franchise is in place for the future. The team is simply missing the foundation, which is at the quarterback position.
Statistically speaking, Teddy Bridgewater is on pace for easily the best season of his professional career, and general manager George Paton said it best — it feels like this team is 1-7 or 2-6, and for me, that’s based largely on the way people who are passionate about the team talk about the team.
The Broncos, at 4-4, are certainly not out of the playoff hunt, especially with seven seeds making it from each conference, nor should it be a foregone conclusion at this point that they won’t make it.
That may be how some “fans” perceive it, but it certainly shouldn’t be the way the organization approaches it.
Adding a player like Odell Beckham certainly hasn’t proven to be an instant ticket to the playoffs for teams, but a player of his caliber with the right attitude certainly wouldn’t hurt your chances.
Again, the assertion is that the Broncos should not pursue Beckham because of their perceived chances at postseason football. Beckham is a tremendous player and when you’re talking about improving the roster after the trade deadline, the player is always going to have some question marks attached.
The Broncos need to prove they buy the core of this team as a playoff-caliber group, and they should not in any way be tanking for draft positioning at this time.
