The Denver Broncos will likely pass on wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on the waiver wire, but should they? Here are some (bad) reasons they probably will.
The Denver Broncos are 4-4 with a key road matchup against the Dallas Cowboys coming up on Sunday. With the recent release of Odell Beckham Jr. in Cleveland, could the Broncos attempt to claim him off of waivers?
George Paton has been aggressive in making trades so far in his time as the team’s general manager, but going after Beckham will require a different kind of aggressiveness.
Dare we say, recklessness?
3 bad reasons the Broncos will probably pass on Odell Beckham Jr.
There are a wide variety of pros and cons to be discussed as it relates to any team looking into adding Odell Beckham Jr., but for the Denver Broncos, adding Beckham Jr. to the roster would require claiming him off of waivers and picking up the remaining $8 million-plus of his 2021 salary.
$8 million is a hefty investment in any player, much less a receiver whose productivity has been poor in recent years and who simply hasn’t been able to stay consistently healthy.
The Denver Broncos’ current situation — a 4-4 record and uncertainty for the future with the coaching staff — leads me to believe the team is very unlikely to add Beckham.
Still, Paton has vowed that he will be “in on every deal” and if that’s the case, the pros and cons of signing a player like Beckham should be considered.
Here are some of the bad reasons for the Broncos not to make this move.
