Denver Broncos make another small trade ahead of deadline
The Denver Broncos were a team many thought would make multiple trades before the trade deadline Tuesday, and they did just that.
However, the trade the team made just ahead of the deadline on Tuesday was nowhere near the magnitude of the move the team made on Monday when it traded away Von Miller.
Many thought the Broncos could move another veteran such as Kareem Jackson, Melvin Gordon or Kyle Fuller. Instead, the team shipped off a rookie from its most recent draft class, sending Kary Vincent Jr. to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Broncos selected Vincent in the seventh round of this year’s draft and it seemed to me and several others that the team got a steal with the selection of the former LSU defensive back. Instead, the Broncos have chosen to keep Vincent as a healthy scratch in each game this year and ultimately, George Paton felt that adding another pick to a growing 2022 class was more important for the team’s future.
The Broncos still have five CBs on the active roster, with more help on the way
Vincent was likely just a victim of the numbers game as the Broncos still have several cornerbacks on the roster and with Essang Bassey and Michael Ojemudia potentially returning to the lineup soon, there was just no room for the 22-year old.
In return, the Broncos will receive a sixth-round pick from the Eagles in the 2022 draft.
In less than two weeks, Vincent will be back in Denver as the Broncos host the Eagles. It will be interesting to see how he fits in with Philly and if they play him in the regular season, something that likely was not going to happen in Denver.
As of right now, the Broncos now have 11 picks in next year’s draft, five of which have now been obtained via trade.
