Denver Broncos: Predicting where veterans could land in trades
2. Melvin Gordon, RB
Melvin Gordon is another name that could be moved. The 28-year-old is in his second season with the Denver Broncos and has mustered a mediocre 350 rushing yards through 7 games this season.
Javonte Williams is clearly the more exciting player, and clearly going to be the starting running back going forward.
The Broncos could get a head start on that by trading Melvin Gordon to a playoff contender.
A team like the Los Angeles Rams could perhaps use another running back. Outside of Darrell Henderson, who is decent, they have Sony Michel, who stinks.
Melvin Gordon would instantly be the best running back on their roster and would allow the Rams more flexibility in both their run and pass game.
The Rams are mostly top-heavy, so they could greatly benefit with another set of legs, especially since they’ve lost Cam Akers for the season.
The Rams are right at the beginning of a renewed Super Bowl window, so trading for another offensive weapon to help Matthew Stafford makes a lot of sense.
Could the Rams give up their 2022 5th round pick for Melvin Gordon? Maybe.
They should be buyers at the deadline, and many contenders who are buyers are sometimes willing to pay a bit more than usual if they’re serious about making a deep playoff run.
Melvin Gordon is still a good running back who helps the Broncos but clearly is not in the long-term plans.
