Denver Broncos Special Teams grade, C

The special teams unit Sunday was in the middle. Sam Martin certain seemed to have a solid day with his longest punt being 68-yards, four punts inside the 20, and two touchbacks. We touched on Martin being a contributor for this team.

It was a great sign for this team to see Martin be able to pin the Baltimore Ravens offense deep inside the 20. Unfortunately the defense struggled at times in the first half to keep the Ravens stalled, but they can only do so much.

The Broncos’ special teams gave up a huge return to Devin Duvernay late in the first half that resulted in three points for the Ravens.

Brandon McManus is a potential weapon when asked to be a field goal contributor. He has one of the strongest legs in the NFL and unfortunately could not see much of a window this last Sunday.

Another reason for a C grade is Denver did a decent job (not good, but not bad either) of returning punts with Diontae Spencer. Spencer has shown a propensity of being a solid contributor in this phase but there never seemed to be a crease a few times where he could slip through that window.

Spencer is more than capable of taking one to the house but his average is too low for my liking.
