Denver Broncos: 5 players that need to step up vs. the Jets

4. Justin Simmons, S

Justin Simmons deservedly got paid a hefty amount of money in the 2021 offseason.

He is one of the best safeties in the NFL and he was paid accordingly.

Through two games, though, Simmons has just seven total tackles, no passes defended, no interceptions, and no tackles for loss.

We just saw what I would consider to be really a “signature” type of game from Kareem Jackson, Simmons’ safety mate on the back end of this outstanding defense.

Jackson was all over the place against the Jaguars, fitting running lanes coming down from the two-high shell look the Broncos run, and picking off a Trevor Lawrence pass showing off outstanding range at the age of 33.

Not that Simmons has to come out and get an interception every single game, or sack the quarterback, or anything like that.

Let’s be honest — he’s still a huge reason why the Denver Broncos’ defense is playing so well.

With that said, I am calling for a huge game in week three from Justin Simmons as the Denver Broncos face off against their third consecutive young quarterback.

Simmons has been known to bait quarterbacks and he obviously has tremendous range and instincts, so in this game, I think we’re going to see why the Denver Broncos paid him the kind of money they did in the offseason.
