Denver Broncos: 5 players that need to step up vs. the Jets

3. Teddy Bridgewater, QB

Teddy Bridgewater put on a historic performance in week one against the New York Giants, setting the Denver Broncos’ all-time record for completion percentage in a debut start.

He’s been one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks through two weeks.

In fact, only three other QBs in league history have started the first two games of the season as well as Teddy Bridgewater in terms of completion percentage, at least four touchdowns, and no interceptions.

And still, he’s got to step up big-time in this game against the New York Jets.

Teddy Bridgwater will have to step up most weeks, let’s be real about it. We won’t necessarily write about it every week, but this game is particularly important.

Given the way the Denver Broncos have played as a team through two weeks of the 2021 season, even some flawed performances by Bridgewater probably would have been able to be overlooked a bit.

He’s played so well, however, that the expectations of him actually carrying the team a little bit and being the tide to raise all boats will continually, gradually, incrementally rise.

Playing his first game in front of the Denver Broncos’ home crowd as a starter, Bridgewater needs to come out razor sharp. Even if his completion percentage is not other-worldly, his ability to convert red zone opportunities into touchdowns and third-down plays into first downs will be critical.
