Special Teams

Another season, another series of miscues from the special teams unit.

Picking up where they left off last season, the special teams unit is by far the biggest weakness of this Denver Broncos team. After allowing a kick return touchdown by Jacksonville’s Jamal Agnew Sunday, and never finding the capability to score on kick or punt returns of their own, it is time for Vic Fangio to tighten the leash of special teams coordinator Tom McMahon.

Many fans criticized the team retaining McMahon for the 2021 season, and it is appearing their disdain was deserved and continues to be two weeks into the new NFL year. Truthfully, under McMahon’s tenure, this unit has been weak and ineffective week in and out, though Brandon McManus remains a bright spot.

Overall, this unit needs to improve going forward, or Tom McMahon should be one of the first coaches we see fired in the 2021 season.
