Denver Broncos rookie stock report vs. Jaguars

2. Javonte Williams, RB

Stock: UP

Week two is going to be absolutely massive for Javonte Williams and the Denver Broncos’ running game.

Especially after they couldn’t really consistently get things going in week one, this should be an area of emphasis for offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur in week two.

Williams did an excellent job in week one no matter what the stat sheet says. He turned plays that could have gone for negative or zero yardage into positive gains, whether it was two, three, four, or more yards.

One area it would be great to see the second-round pick more involved?

The passing game.

The Denver Broncos didn’t do a whole lot to get the backs involved in the passing game against the Giants with three targets going to Melvin Gordon and just one to Javonte Williams.

Williams played a fair number of snaps but it would be great to see Shurmur get him even more involved in week two and I think we will see that.

In terms of total touches, Williams and Gordon were already at a 50-50 split in week one. Gordon had the huge 70-yard run but otherwise, Williams proved he’s ready for even more involvement.
