Denver Broncos consequences if the team misses the playoffs

3. Trade deadline selling

If it becomes clear early in the season that the Denver Broncos are not contending for a playoff spot, one consequence would certainly be the team becoming a seller at the trade deadline.

The Broncos may not be “buyers” at the deadline even if they are competing for a playoff spot, but a poor start to the season — bad enough to know by November where things are headed — could result in not only an in-season coaching change but almost undoubtedly shuffling of the roster via trade.

Players like Bryce Callahan have already been rumored of interest to many teams around the league, and the Broncos have a number of other players on the final year of their contracts that would be attractive to ring chasing franchises.

Wide receiver Tim Patrick is a name that has consistently come up for teams needing receiver help.

Alexander Johnson or Josey Jewell are starting-caliber linebackers that could help teams in need down the line.

Kyle Fuller is only on a one-year deal.

Kareem Jackson is on a one-year deal and at a bargain price.

If the writing is on the wall, the Denver Broncos could easily become sellers at the trade deadline with the playoffs out of reach or sight.
