Defensive MVP

Dre’Mont Jones, defensive end

Indications from training camp and the preseason show that defensive end Dre’Mont Jones could have a big year for the Denver Broncos in 2021.

After two seasons in the NFL recording a combined 10 sacks, there are reasons to believe that Jones can reach that total in his third season alone.

First, defensive line coach Bill Kollar demands the most from his players. It’s evident during training camp: He’s a motivator and he doesn’t let things slide. He has a way with his players.

Another thing is that, as mentioned in the team MVP portion of this article, Von Miller and Bradley Chubb will be back. I strongly believe that Miller is going to require being double-teamed a lot of the time. That would open up opportunities for guys on the defensive line such as Jones to be free and have a chance to either sack the quarterback or stuff the run.

The Broncos have done a tremendous job of developing the defense. Despite losing DeMarcus Walker to the Houston Texans, the Broncos still have Shelby Harris, Mike Purcell and another guy in McTelvin Agim who is coming along nicely.

The team also boasts a strong secondary which will cover wide receivers and tight ends nicely, forcing quarterbacks to hold onto the football longer and then make mistakes.

This defense is set up to be a recipe for success.

Dre’Mont Jones is going to surprise people in 2021. The Broncos are going to face some quality quarterbacks, as well as a couple of rookies (first overall pick Trevor Lawrence and second-overall pick Zach Wilson are early on the team’s schedule).
