The Denver Broncos have cut down their roster to the league maximum 53 players. Among the surprises of the players no longer on the team, the team has initially kept just five wide receivers.

Expect that to change. In a press conference following the 4 PM ET deadline, General Manager George Paton said that the team could add as many as three more wide receivers, potentially for the practice squad.

The players that have either been waived, cut, or traded were: Tyrie Cleveland, Kendall Hinton, Trinity Benson (trade with the Detroit Lions), De’Mornay Pierson-El, and Seth Williams.

Cleveland and Williams were recent draft picks by the team, while Hinton and Benson were undrafted free agent pickups. Pierson-El was a 2021 free agent signing.

The five receivers currently on the roster are Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, Jerry Jeudy, K.J. Hamler, and Diontae Spencer.

Since the first wave of roster cuts, over one hundred wide receivers have been cut from their respective team. Many will go on practice squads and don’t be surprised if the Denver Broncos add some to their own.

One of the guys that the Broncos hypothetically could look into signing is 2021 fourth-round pick Dez Fitzpatrick. While the Tennessee Titans may want him back on their practice squad. The issue for the Titans is that their waiver spot is all the way at 22, while Denver’s is at nine (2021 NFL Draft order).

Another recent draft pick, Antonio Gandy-Golden, was released today as part of the Washington Football Team’s move to get to 53 players.

There are going to be more moves in the coming days and we will find out who the Denver Broncos get via waivers, as well as who they may have unfortunately missed out on due to a team with higher waiver priority putting in a claim.

Unfortunately, this is a tough part of the NFL. While the initial 53-man roster has been set, more moves are going to happen in the coming days.
