As the great Rod Smith used to say, “You can’t make the club when you’re always in the tub.”

I’m not sure the Denver Broncos Ring of Famer coined that phrase, but it certainly rings true on an annual basis in the NFL.

If you aren’t available, you are going to be expendable.

That’s just the way it goes.

Trey Marshall has not been available, and in the time that he’s been dealing with an injury in recent weeks, players like PJ Locke, Caden Sterns, and Jamar Johnson have all been making their case for roster spots.

Marshall could be valued a bit more because of his special teams ability, but there’s also a chance he’s not necessarily a cut but a procedural move to IR or something like that due to the injury he’s been dealing with.

Even if Marshall is healthy and ready to practice again, it might be too little too late for him. He could certainly resurface as a practice squad player and gameday call-up for special teams work, but as of right now, it’s hard to see a spot for Marshall with the emergence of other young players.
