Denver Broncos: 5 players trending toward being cut after preseason
3. Cam Fleming, OT
For $1 million guaranteed, there was absolutely nothing wrong with bringing in a veteran like Cam Fleming as some insurance when Ja’Wuan James went down with a season-ending injury.
After signing Bobby Massie, the Broncos brought in Fleming with the idea that he might be able to possibly start for them at the right tackle position in a best-case scenario, but that has not happened.
Not even a little bit.
Fleming has been a weak spot on the offensive line when he’s been on the field, and despite his veteran presence out there, he wasn’t even really in the competition with Bobby Massie and Calvin Anderson when training camp opened up.
Fleming’s inability to get anything going will ultimately cost him a roster spot and could lead to the Denver Broncos, at least initially, keeping just eight offensive linemen.
Because the Broncos already paid him a million bucks, it wouldn’t be shocking to see Fleming as a veteran practice squad addition, but I’m not sure he’s played well enough to warrant even that.
