The Denver Broncos’ 2021 preseason ended with a victory, but roster cuts are looming. Which players are trending towards being cut?

The unfortunate reality of the NFL every year around this time is about to hit hundreds of players all over the league. Roster cuts are obviously brutal for the players involved, but for many players, these difficult endings can often result in new beginnings and those new beginnings can lead to some long-term situations. The Denver Broncos finished off the 2021 preseason with a 3-0 record but more importantly, some good tape from the roster as a whole.

Roster cuts will not be easy, and that’s a good thing.

Teams have to cut their rosters down to 53 players by Tuesday afternoon, and even when those initial rosters are turned in, it’s more likely than not that things will change even more by Wednesday when players are claimed off of waivers and added to the practice squad.

The roster frenzy is always fun for fans to watch, as brutal as it is for the players involved.

Which Denver Broncos are trending towards being cut after the team’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams? Let’s take a look.

Denver Broncos players trending towards being cut

1. Brett Rypien, QB

Although the COVID protocols will have to be considered over the course of a long 17-game season, it’s going to be nearly impossible for the Denver Broncos to justify keeping three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster.

As much trouble as this team has had on special teams even just in preseason play, how can you use a precious roster spot on a guy who isn’t going to contribute?

Given the fact that Rypien started a game last season and looked pretty decent in a lot of that particular game (the team’s first win of the 2020 season), the Broncos might hesitate to try to sneak Rypien through waivers.

If they can, however, I think that would obviously be the preference.

Rypien is a valuable guy for the quarterback room and he can obviously come in and play in a pinch, but that is pretty much the definition of the type of guy you want on the practice squad at the position.

If Rypien had come out guns blazing in the preseason, this might be a different discussion. As it stands, I think Rypien is headed towards the waiver wire.
