Drew Lock didn’t start the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday night, but he made some plays and kept pace with Teddy Bridgewater.

While Lock started the preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings and looked fabulous in the process,  Bridgewater responded with a nearly perfect effort against Seattle, helping the Broncos get out to a 14-0 lead in the game.

Lock was the guy playing with the backups in this one and that seemed to make a difference from last week. He dealt with far more pressure and was rushed on any plays.  On one play, he went to hand the ball off but was stepped on by Netane Muti and nearly turned the ball over.

The highlight of the night for Lock came on a third-down play in the third quarter. With the ball at the Seattle 47-yard line, he faced pressure and stepped up, looking to maybe scramble for the first down. At the last second, he seemed to see rookie Seth Williams crossing the field out of the corner of his eye. He flipped him the ball and Williams turned it into a 33-yard gain.

The kind of backyard-style play is what Lock can do. Though Bridgewater brings a veteran experience and is probably the more controlled guy, you aren’t going to see him go off script and make something happen like this.

Which quarterback is going to win the job?

So what did the Broncos learn in this game? Probably not a lot in terms of the quarterback competition as things are probably still where they were.

With the starters, Bridgewater looked great. His supporters will point to that performance and say that he can duplicate that when the games start to count. But for Lock, he still played well with the backups too and those hoping for him to win the job will have a lot to point to as well.

With only one preseason game remaining, Vic Fangio and his staff should make this decision soon. Judging by what we have seen in the preseason, either guy may bring the team success.

For me, the job has been and still is Lock’s to lose.
