Cornerback Kary Vincent was the first of seven 7th-round draft picks of the Denver Broncos in this year’s draft class. As of right now, Vincent is listed as the fifth cornerback on the right side of the defense according to the team’s depth chart.

He is behind Ronald Darby, Bryce Callahan, Parnell Motley, and newly-signed Saivion Smith.

It is telling that Vincent is behind a player who was just signed on August 4th. Vincent has been on the roster much longer but the issue here is that he just cannot get onto the practice field to make his case for the roster.

Vincent played in 32 games from 2017 through 2019. He opted out of the 2020 season. At the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine, Vincent ran the 40-yard dash at 4.36 seconds, which was tied for sixth with two other players.

Vincent went on the team’s COVID-19/reserve list on July 26th and came off of it on the 31st. He then went the entire practice before limping off the field following the last play.

Though he got some work done in training camp, missing five days of it is a big deal. It means that there is a strong chance that he is behind in the mental aspect of learning the defense.

Vincent was a sprinter at LSU, and his 40-time is very impressive but having speed isn’t the only thing a player should have if they want to stick on a roster. They have to do so much more than show speed. With a talented cornerback group on the Denver Broncos, it may be too much for Vincent to overcome. If he does not make the 53-man roster, it certainly is possible that the team would consider signing him to the practice squad.
