Is there any value left in Royce Freeman?
The recent injury to Mike Boone was rough news for the team, but no player should benefit, or have the opportunity to benefit, more than Freeman.
The Broncos’ plan to go with a one-two punch of Melvin Gordon and rookie Javonte Williams remains intact, but the team still needs a solid No. 3 running back, a role that was likely going to go to Boone. It still could when Boone returns.
Freeman will get the chance to plug himself into that role and have a chance to stick around when he does. He also remains a top trade candidate for the team so Freeman could also use the extra reps as an open audition to the other 31 teams in the league.
There are big days coming for Freeman, a player the Broncos once used a third-round pick on. The other running backs on the team seem to be set in terms of where they fit on the roster, but the preseason will be more important to Freeman than any other back on the roster.
What value does he have left to the Broncos? What could the Broncos get for him in a potential trade? Those are the questions to answer.
