If you want to read a little too much into the Denver Broncos’ initial depth chart, here’s something interesting about how the edge rushers were listed.

Rookie Jonathon Cooper was listed ahead of Derrek Tuszka despite a lot of the rest of the depth chart being based on last year or based on seniority. Cooper has obviously impressed enough to be considered the fourth EDGE at this point. He was listed behind Bradley Chubb on the depth chart.

Behind Von Miller was top backup Malik Reed, but behind Reed was rookie free agent Andre Mintze.

So if you’re trying to figure out who is the fifth edge behind Jonathon Cooper, the team likely feels that right now it’s Andre Mintze.

When the final roster is settled, don’t be shocked to see the Denver Broncos keep five edge guys, and don’t be surprised to see one of them be Mintze.

You can see Mintze coming off the left side of the line of scrimmage here with excellent burst and some violent hands. Those are the same things he brought to the table when he was a member of Vanderbilt and he’ll be expected to show out in preseason play.

It’s no surprise that, since the pads have come on, Mintze’s name has been coming up more. He’s definitely got the ability off the edge the Denver Broncos need and between him and Cooper, they may have a couple of nice gems on their hands.
