Tim Patrick

Featured as the other outside receiver for the Broncos last season, Tim Patrick was one of the biggest surprises in fantasy football.

Courtland Sutton’s injury allowed the Broncos to see Patrick’s true potential as a starting receiver, and boy did he not disappoint. In 2020, Tim Patrick recorded 51 receptions for 742 yards and 6 touchdowns, the most scores in the end zone out of all Broncos receivers last season.

In fantasy, Tim Patrick shocked the world. He managed to produce about 161 points last season, with eight games over 10 points, two games over 20 points, and three games where he recorded over 100 yards receiving (meaning he reached a 100-yard bonus in most leagues).

It’s obvious most of Tim Patrick’s success was due to the absence of Sutton, but with his given opportunities, Patrick proved he deserves more licks in the Broncos offense. With all of Denver’s starting quarterbacks last season, Patrick was most successful along the sidelines. If Pat Shurmur can work him in on plays such as curls and sticks, Tim Patrick could be a legitimate candidate to be on fantasy rosters.

Consistent catches from Patrick mean consistent yards, which in turn, could lead to more points in P.P.R. fantasy leagues. Patrick proved he can get it done for fantasy owners when he produces yards, but now listed as the fourth receiver’s in Denver’s depth chart, his production in fantasy is going to be matchup-based. This means you have to do extensive research on who Denver is facing on a weekly basis before pulling the trigger on Patrick.

I can help with this small piece of information. Patrick scored all six of his touchdowns last season against opponents with limited secondary depth. Let’s take a look at week 13 last year vs. the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick was going up against a limited Chiefs cornerback crew that comprised of Charvarius Ward, Rashad Fenton, and L’Jarius Sneed.

Out of those three combined, there were only four interceptions, three of which came from Sneed. Seeing this, Patrick went off, recording two touchdowns in the redone.

With keeping this in mind, watch for Tim Patrick to have small outbreaks of production in 2021.

He’s proven he can be reliable, but with a Denver Broncos corps that is back to being 100 percent healthy, his projections and opportunities will be much lower.
