Denver Broncos: Key training camp battle updates
Everyone throughout the National Football League is aware of the Denver Broncos quarterback situation, it’s Drew Lock vs Teddy Bridgewater. Lock was the starter last year, but he did not perform well enough. Bridgewater is the newcomer, who did not perform up to par with the Carolina Panthers in 2020, either.
Whoever wins the gig will have the advantage of leading a team oozing with talent. This team only has a few starting spots open for competition. Uncertainty resides at the following positions: quarterback, center, right tackle, and potentially inside linebacker.
Demar Dotson, who was the team’s primary right tackle last season, is no longer with the team. Returning to the team is the, according to Head Coach Vic Fangio, “not to be slept on” Calvin Anderson.
Brought in for competition with Anderson were a couple of free agents, Bobby Massie and Cameron Fleming. On the interior of the offensive line, there is another battle going on between Lloyd Cushenberry III and rookie Quinn Meinerz.
Both former third-round picks, Cushenberry III and Meinerz have potential. Cushenberry III needs to prove he is strong enough to anchor the interior, while Meinerz needs to prove that the jump from Division III football to the NFL will not be overwhelming.
As far as starting positions, those are the more intriguing battles. Inside linebacker could potentially be in store for a surprise with a healthy Justin Strnad back in camp. Josey Jewell has played adequately but lacks elite athleticism.
Some depth positions that should have an eye or two kept on them are the third and fourth tight end positions, the fourth pass rusher, and the last couple of spots in the wide receiver room. How have some of these battles progressed up to date?
