Safety Justin Simmons, 91 overall

Listed as the second-highest rated Denver Broncos player overall at 91, it’s not good enough. It’s not good enough for Justin Simmons. You’re talking about a guy that makes plays all over the ball and is always in position to make them.

He’s a leader of that defense. He’s the leader of the secondary and has proven his worth to the team over the last few years of being a full-time starter. He’s never missed a snap in the last two years.

Simmons is a tremendous processor. He’s a smart football player who can run with some fast wide receivers and make plays on the football quicker than said wide receivers. It’s like he knows what the quarterback is going to do before the quarterback even throws the football.

Over his five seasons in the NFL, Simmons has caught 16 interceptions, including a career-high five during the 2020 season. He also posted his second-most tackles in 2020 with 96 (he had 97 in 2018 and 93 in 2019).

Now, Simmons’ initial Madden 22 rating is not something to cry about, but I feel like he should rank higher on the list of top-10 safeties. He comes in at No. 5.

During Franchise Mode in the video game, you’ve had the opportunity to manually upgrade players on a weekly basis. One of the things that you can upgrade is called “Hybrid”. That’s exactly what Simmons is. He’s a hybrid safety who is just all over the field. He can make plays in the backfield against running backs, blitz the quarterback, and stay with offensive weapons. It’s like there’s no actual position for him.

Unlike some players who people have said that last sentence about, this is a good thing. He’s just so good. Look for Simmons to outplay his initial Madden 22 rating and earn his way into the upper-90’s.
