Cornerback: Mac McCain

The Broncos are loaded at the cornerback position and five of them are pretty much locked into roster spots with Ronald Darby, Kyle Fuller, Patrick Surtain, Bryce Callahan and Michael Ojemudia on the roster.

But with Essang Bassey currently on the PUP list, we’ll go way down to the bottom of the roster to find a sleeper, another undrafted free agent in Mac McCain.

McCain played at FCS North Carolina A&T, but he was an All-Conference selection three times and he showed some impressive skills while at the school and likely could have signed with another NFL team that didn’t have quite so much depth at the position.

He will have to get past Parnell Motley and Nate Hairston to even get moderate reps during the preseason, and then there is the veteran Duke Dawson and the talented rookie Kary Vincent, Jr. on the roster as well.

McCain will have his work cut out for him, but coming from a small school he has known that was going to be the case for years.

Because of the level of talent in front of him, he is likely battling for a spot on the practice squad this summer, but his name could be one to remember.

Not every player needs to contribute this season in order to be important to the team. McCain could be a future contributor who hangs around the organization and just works his way up the ladder, similar to the way Tim Patrick’s career has gone.
