Josey Jewell

While the Broncos drafted linebacker Josey Jewell in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, his roster spot isn’t necessarily guaranteed. If he does play out the 2021 season with the Denver Broncos, he better play his tail off.

Enter 2021 third-round pick Baron Browning.

Coincidentally, Browning just signed his rookie contract as this was being written on Thursday.

Browning was drafted in hope that he will be able to help in coverage against tight ends and running backs. That is something that Jewell isn’t great at, as he lacks the speed that is necessary to do so at the position. Browning can make plays sideline-to-sideline and that is one of the most appealing things about him.

The Broncos also have 2020 fifth-round pick Justin Strnad waiting for his shot at competing for a major role in the defense. This just may spell close to the end of Jewell—if not sometime this year, then next season.
