Cornerback Patrick Surtain II

The Denver Broncos selected Patrick Surtain II out of Alabama for a number of reasons, and there is no way that they would allow their first-round rookie to leave for a new team without even playing for them—unless, of course, it was in a trade that involved a certain star quarterback.

Even with Bryce Callahan, Ronald Darby, and Kyle Fuller in the secondary, the Broncos could not pass up the opportunity to bring Surtain to the Mile High City. He has great ball skills, to go along with his size and speed. He was the best defensive player on their board and it is a blessing that he was available at the ninth overall pick.

Fuller and Callahan are scheduled to become free agents in 2022 unless they play exceptionally well and earn contract extensions.

If that does not happen, Surtain’s involvement in the defense will become greater than it will be in 2021 as a rookie.

Just hearing things that have been said by Surtain’s coaches, it is obvious that he gets it. His dad is a former cornerback himself, so he’s had that to go by, and with the fact that he went to Alabama, he should have no problem adjusting to the NFL life.

Surtain II was the easy choice with the ninth overall pick. He was the right choice. There’s no way the Broncos are going to give the star rookie up.
