In the NFL, teams are always toying with their rosters.
As of now, all 32 teams in the league have 90 players on their roster. Of course, this needs to be cut down to 53 before the season starts along with a 10-man practice squad.
But when teams finalize their rosters before the season starts, they aren’t really final. General managers will scan the waiver wire to see the list of players that other teams around the league have released.
One team’s trash can be another team’s treasure.
When the Denver Broncos finalize their roster following the preseason, George Paton might be interested in the following players, should their respective teams move on from them.
Ty Sambrailo began his career with the Broncos after being drafted in the second round back in 2015. He was basically terrible for the team.
Since then, Sambrailo has had stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Tennessee Titans. He has found a way to become a more reliable offensive lineman and could be an option as a swing tackle for the Broncos off the bench.
The Titans used a second-round pick on Dillon Radunz and though Sambrailo has shown the versatility to play multiple spots on the offensive line during his career, the younger Radunz is probably even more versatile.
In terms of money, it would cost the Titans a lot less to move on from Sambrailo than it would another veteran lineman, Kendall Lamm.
Sambrailo might be a better option for the Broncos than say Cameron Fleming, if he were to become available. With the coaching of Mike Munchak, he might even live up to the potential that made him a second-round pick.
I discussed the idea of the Broncos acquiring Sambrailo following the season-ending injury to Ja’Wuan James.
