Diontae Spencer, wide receiver

There is no doubt that Diontae Spencer can be an impactful kick returner, but when there are 15 wide receivers on the roster, it’s hard to say that the one who is the best kick returner should get the roster spot.

The Broncos have over capacitated the wide receiver room and there is room for one or two guys to step up and earn a spot. If someone like Tyrie Cleveland or Amara Darboh can show more as a wide receiver than Spencer, they should leapfrog him on the depth chart.

The Broncos have had players like this before (Trindon Holliday comes to mind) but Spencer is not a guy who is going to give you much in the passing game.

The Broncos have Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and K.J. Hamler who are going to make the team. That leaves a spot or two for someone else to make an impression.

Spencer has been on the team in each of the last two seasons but he also hasn’t had to compete with this many other wide receivers before and there are a few of them who could convince the coaching staff that having a designated kick returner is a bit overrated.
