Trey Burton

Trey Burton is probably the most recognizable name on this list and he would definitely be better than the options behind Fant and Okwuegbunam. He was more than serviceable last season with the Indianapolis Colts, so it’s somewhat surprising that they didn’t bring him back.

Burton is a versatile tight end who can also run the ball if needed (he had rushing touchdowns in back-to-back games last year) and he can even be used in the occasional trick play as he was part of the famous “Philly Special’ in Super Bowl LII.

Burton has 159 career catches and he has 15 touchdowns in stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Colts.

In Denver, he could be used in the H-Back role, where Beck, who is listed as a fullback, would likely be the player to do that as of now. Burton is also just 29 years old and likely has more tread on the tires.

At this point in his career, Burton would thrive in a backup role as he’s never really been a featured guy anyway. If Okwuegbunam is not ready to play when the season begins, the Broncos would be hard-pressed to find a better available option than this guy.
