Safety Trey Marshall

This one might come down to a numbers game. The Denver Broncos already have their starters at safety locked in with Justin Simmons and the return of Kareem Jackson. They added two safeties in the 2021 NFL Draft with Caden Sterns and Jamar Johnson.

Those draftees may have been the best available players on the board when the Broncos picked at the time, and in the later rounds, you can pick players that won’t be guaranteed a spot on the roster. However, I feel that they would not have gone this direction had they been overly excited about Marshall.

This spot was between Marshall and P.J. Locke. The thing that gives Locke the edge is that he not only beat Marshall in special teams snaps (370 to 282), but he led the team in that category as well.

Sterns and Johnson might be locks to make the team in 2021. We will find out more as training camp gets underway.

The odds are certainly against Marshall and were in a matter of moments as the team tried to improve the backup safety position. In moves that brought two backups to the Mile High City, we may not see Marshall on the field for the team in week 1.
