One of the most inevitable things related to the Denver Broncos has happened. The team announced that quarterback Peyton Manning has been chosen to be in their Ring of Fame.
To be eligible for the Ring of Fame, a player must have been retired for five seasons and had to have played four seasons with the team. Manning, who retired following the 2015 season—and the team’s most recent Super Bowl victory, played for the team from 2012 through 2015.
Manning led the Broncos to two Super Bowl appearances including the Super Bowl 50 victory, which proved to be his final rodeo.
Among some of his greatest achievements throughout his career, Manning threw 55 touchdowns during the 2013 season. That was and still is an NFL record. Along with those 55 touchdowns, Manning threw for 5,477 yards, also a record.
Manning has lived in Denver ever since arriving in 2012 and had a tremendous impact on the field. He helped the team lure several key free agents to Denver in 2014, including Emmanuel Sanders, DeMarcus Ware, and Aqib Talib.
Manning is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, having broken the passing yards record in 2015. He finished his career with over 71,000 passing yards, including over 17,000 as a member of the Denver Broncos.
Denver Broncos President and CEO Joe Ellis spoke about what Manning meant to the team following the news of the Ring of Fame induction.
"“It comes as no surprise that Peyton Manning was unanimously elected as the 35th member of the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame. His four seasons in Denver were marked by record-setting individual success and exceptional leadership that helped the Broncos to multiple Super Bowls and one of the winningest periods in team history.“When Peyton arrived in 2012, his impact and standard was felt throughout our team, the entire organization and in the community. Coming back from a serious injury — with a new team in a new city — to not only win MVP but to have one of the greatest single seasons ever by any player was a remarkable feat.”— Broncos President/CEO Joe Ellis"
As a member of the Broncos, Manning led the team to a 45-12 overall record. From 2012-2014, the Broncos finished the year with over 10 wins.
Since John Elway’s retirement, Manning has been the best quarterback the Broncos have had—and it isn’t even close. Since his retirement, the struggle of finding that quarterback continues.
However, Manning has helped current Broncos quarterback Drew Lock in several aspects of Lock’s game and though that doesn’t have an effect on his placement in the Ring of Fame, it’s a great thing to note.
Denver Broncos have NFL’s best secondary per PFF
The Denver Broncos made some big-time additions to the defensive backfield in the 2021 offseason, and PFF says their secondary is the NFL's best.
Manning was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a class member of 2021. It’s a huge year for him. Congratulations, Peyton, on yet another achievement.
