Marquiss Spencer, defensive end
Defensive line is a unit that could be considered thin for this team despite re-signing Shelby Harris, at least in terms of depth. Dre’Mont Jones is a player on the rise and he pairs well with Harris as the defensive ends.
Mike Purcell will return to help man the middle in the team’s 3-4 scheme and behind him will be feee-agent signing Shamar Stephen. Second-year player McTelvin Agim will need to show something as the former third-round pick had a quiet rookie campaign.
But on the ends, there is an opening for seventh-round pick Marquiss Spencer to make a name for himself. He only has the likes of DeShawn Williams, Jonathan Harris and Deyon Sizer in front of him.
None of those players has done a lot in terms of being assured a spot on the roster and though Williams would likely have the inside track to getting one, the young Spencer could certainly wrestle it away from him.
Spencer is a bigger defensive end at 6-foot-4 and right around 300 pounds but he can provide speed and power off the edge and could really make an instant impact for this team.
