Although the primary motivations for adding depth at the tight end position remain the same for this one, the Denver Broncos should consider a trade for the former first-round pick David Njoku for more reasons than just “depth”.

Adding Njoku would give the Denver Broncos an enviable trio of unicorn athletes at the tight end position and as crazy as it may sound, Njoku would be the “least” athletically gifted among the three in terms of size, speed, and explosiveness.

Still, Njoku has proven himself to be a playmaker when the ball is thrown in his direction. He has 11 career touchdown catches on 112 receptions total, 60 first-down catches, and over 11 yards per reception for his career.

The Browns decided to upgrade on Njoku in the 2020 offseason by signing free agent tight end Austin Hooper and drafting Harrison Bryant, who immediately came in and took Njoku’s job as the TE2 behind Hooper.

Although considering Njoku a draft “bust” would be a little harsh, it’s clear that he’s not the top priority for the new regime there and if he could be acquired for a reasonable price, he would be a fun one-year addition for the Denver Broncos and a worthwhile “dart throw” for GM George Paton.
