Adam Prentice signed with the Denver Broncos following the 2021 NFL Draft and will be looking to find a role on the team as a blocking fullback.

Prentice’s name may sound familiar to Broncos fans who root for local teams, as he started his college playing career at Colorado State.

At Clovis High School in California, Prentice was not only a football star, but he earned all-league honors in track and was also a state and national champion wrestler. He came to CSU in 2015 and redshirted that season.

Height: 6-foot

Weight: 245

Age: 24

School:  South Carolina (graduate transfer from Colorado State)

Though he was never much of an offensive threat with the Rams, Prentice displayed solid blocking ability, toughness and a great work ethic. Through his time at the school, he showed himself to be even better academically.

He was chosen as one of four team captains for the 2018 season and before leaving the school, he earned a degree in civil engineering from CSU.

During his sixth year of eligibility, Prentice transferred to South Carolina and made five starts for the team. He was an excellent blocker for the Gamecocks and competed in the Spiral Tropical Bowl following the season.

Chances of making final roster (1-10 scale): 2

Prentice is a good blocking fullback, but the Broncos already have Andrew Beck on the roster as well as some tight ends who could take on more of a role as a blocker than a pass catcher.

Prentice was given minimal carries (20) during his college career but he did show the ability to catch the ball when his number was called. At the professional level, he would be trying to make a roster as a primary blocker who could be used in short-yardage situations or as a receiver that leaks out of the backfield on passing plays.

The fullback position is lost among most teams in today’s NFL as most offensive schemes don’t call for one, but for a team looking for the traits of a throwback fullback, Prentice is at least worth a stash on the practice squad.

Prentice’s presence on the roster this summer will be similar to what the team had in undrafted free agent George Aston a couple of years ago.
