The Denver Broncos continue to sign their 2021 Draft picks.

Now under contract with the team is defensive tackle Marquiss Spencer. The Broncos took Spencer with the 253rd pick in the draft.

He will compete with 2020 third-round pick McTelvin Agim, along with 2021 free agent pickups Isaiah Mack and Shamar Stephen.

Spencer provides experience at playing as a 3-technique lineman and a 4-technique lineman. That versatility could come in significantly with Vic Fangio coaching him up.

In Fangio’s defense, he could play as a 3-4 defensive end.

The emergence of Spencer could be very important during the 2021 season and potentially longer than that due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Last season, Shelby Harris tested positive for the virus.

At Mississippi State, The 6-foot-4, 301-pound Spencer played in 46 games during a five-year span. He recorded 110 total tackles, including 54 solo and 23 tackles for a loss.

Spencer also registered seven sacks in those five years, with three coming during the 2020 season. He had three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his collegiate career.

In high school, Spencer played a number of positions, including cornerback, kicker, and even punter.

During the 2019 season at Mississippi State, Spencer played in 13 games, including 12 at the right defensive end spot.

During the 2020 season, Spencer suffered what appears to be a neck or spinal injury. Though he appears to have recovered from that serious type of injury, it is something to be aware of going forward because injuries to the head, neck, or spine are no joke and can be very problematic going forward.

Spencer will receive a signing bonus of $81,396 as part of a four-year, $3,561,396 contract that is pre-determined as part of a previous Collective Bargaining Agreement.

As a seventh-round pick, Spencer will have to work his way up to the final roster.

The Denver Broncos have signed the following draft picks: Safety Caden Stern, safety Jamar Johnson, wide receiver Seth Williams, cornerback Kary Vincent Jr. They have five more picks to sign: cornerback Pat Surtain II, running back Javonte Williams, offensive lineman Quinn Meinerz, linebacker Baron Browning, and linebacker Jonathon Cooper.
