Denver Broncos: Tale of the tape, jersey number edition
33 – Javonte Williams vs Ron Dayne
Williams (5-foot-10, 220 pounds) vs Dayne (5-foot-10, 249 pounds)
One of these backs was a former Heisman Trophy winner, and the other is Javonte Williams.
Ron Dayne, former 11th overall pick in the 2000 draft spent one lone season with the Denver Broncos in 2005. During this time frame, Mike Shanahan was considered the running back guru and could have probably turned me into a 1,000-yard rusher.
Dayne was a part of this cycle that included players like Mike Bell, Reuben Droughns, and plenty more. Shanahan and his rushing attack were known for turning chicken poop into chicken salad.
When Ron Dayne was drafted, the New York Giants certainly had higher hopes for the former Badger. As a member of the Denver Broncos, Dayne rushed for a mere 270 yards and a lone touchdown.
Certainly, Javonte Williams can top that.
Not only will Williams surpass that, I think Williams will surpass many expectations. This guy is a beast, a type of running back that a lot of defensive backs do not want any part of. Although Williams did not win the Heisman in college, his professional career should lap Dayne’s, multiple times.
Wiliams may not be RB1 right out of the gate in 2021, but I expect him to be seriously pushing Gordon to come November. It doesn’t have to be a competition, this backfield can be an exceptional committee.
Much like Williams was a part of at the University of North Carolina, he can be a part of a formidable duo. Having two bell cow backs like Williams and Gordon will bring Pat Shurmur joy.
Advantage: Javonte Williams
