Los Angeles Chargers: Rashawn Slater, Asante Samuel Jr.

Sitting at No. 13 in the first round, the Chargers had to be absolutely thrilled when Rashawn Slater fell into their lap. Slater was a quick riser on team’s big boards during the draft process and some even had him rated ahead of Penei Sewell.

The Chargers are a team that has seemed to need offensive line help for ages and Slater gives the team a young, athletic prospect with a great ceiling for many years to come. With Slater protecting Herbert, big things could be brewing in L.A.

The team’s second-round selection of Asante Samuel Jr. was a great pick as well. Samuel was another guy who rose up the board late in the process and some even gave him first-round consideration just ahead of the draft.

Samuel’s father was a Pro Bowl corner who won two Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots. He led the NFL in interceptions in 2006 and 2009 and if he rubbed off on his son at all, the Chargers have a fantastic prospect here.

With the team moving on from Casey Hayward this offseason, Samuel has a chance to come in and be a day one starter for the team.

The rest of the Chargers’ draft was great as well. Wide receiver Josh Palmer and defensive end Chris Rumph have a chance to make a big impact as rookies as well.
