Denver Broncos: 5 players team may have overlooked in the draft
Dillon Radunz, OT, North Dakota State
The season-ending injury to Ja’Wuan James brings the tackle position back to the forefront but if we’re being honest, the Broncos should have drafted a tackle even before that injury took place.
Now, having the benefit of hindsight, the fact that the team didn’t take a tackle looks crazy.
Dillon Radunz was one of the best prospects in this draft class and he is only going to get better. He is already fantastic in the running game and has the kind of frame to get bigger without losing athleticism to become even more polished in pass protection.
He was taken in the second round with the pick right after Owusu-Koramoah by the Tennessee Titans.
William Sherman, OT, Colorado
Sherman was not selected until the sixth round where he was taken by the New England Patriots but he is a guy who the Broncos definitely could have taken a flier on.
Sherman projects best as a guard at the next level but with the right coaching could likely make some spot starts in the NFL as a tackle, something the Broncos could definitely use with James going down.
What better coach to bring that out of him than Mike Munchak?
It’s easy to harp on the tackle position now that James has been hurt again, but it’s hard to understand what George Paton didn’t use a pick on this position, at least for more depth. The team placed way too much confidence in James.
