Tight End

The decision to not select a tight end in the 2021 NFL Draft is baffling to me.

The team does have a solid starter in Noah Fant and a second-year player in Albert Okwuegbunam, as well as Austin Fort and Eric Saubert. Is that really enough?

Fort has had his fair share of knee injuries, including a torn ACL in 2019 and other knee issues in 2020. He landed on injured reserve in September of 2020.

Jake Butt is a free agent and it would shock me if the Broncos looked in his direction as even a camp body. He has had so many ACL injuries, I’m shocked he can still walk.

Nick Vannett is also a free agent. Vannett did not show much in the passing game for the Broncos in 2020, catching 14 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. The Broncos need more at that position than Vannett was able to offer.

Even if the three tight ends on the current team are the ones that end up making the final 53-man roster, it is going to be important for them to add camp bodies so their top players stay fresh and healthy. Let’s try not to go through the injury bug again.
