Denver Broncos Draft: Scenarios that could cause a trade down
2. Cornerback (Patrick Surtain) gets selected before ninth pick
Cornerback is a position that the Broncos invested in during the offseason with the signings of Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller. That being said, they need more depth at the position, especially for the long-term.
If the Broncos stay put at the ninth pick, Alabama’s Patrick Surtain could be the pick… If he is still on the board.
It is possible that a team sees all of those quarterbacks mentioned earlier go off the board, tipping the Broncos’ hand at the possibility of drafting Surtain. That could create a domino effect and a team looking to draft Surtain (Cowboys — 10th pick) could leapfrog the Broncos in order to get their guy.
If that ends up happening, hope is not completely lost for the Broncos. Jaycee Horn is likely to be considered by the Broncos, in my opinion. You really can’t go wrong with either option.
Are you with me so far? The Broncos have the following options: Trade up for a quarterback, stay put and let the board fall to them, or trade down to accumulate more picks if quarterback or cornerback aren’t options at nine.
I personally like either cornerback option.
