*gasp*

Yes, Carolina takes a QB in this scenario. It’s still a very real possibility that isn’t discussed enough.

Although they traded for Sam Darnold, I don’t think the Panthers are finished chasing quarterbacks. It’s been projected that they already picked up Sam’s fifth-year option, but that actually isn’t the case. The Panthers’ front office has stated that they won’t be making a decision on his option until after the draft.

While there is a legitimate chance that Darnold can resurrect his career in Carolina, you can’t consider that position solved for them yet.

Fields is an incredible talent and I don’t think Fitterer, Rhule, and Tepper will be able to resist. His accuracy, ability to manipulate an offense pre and post-snap, and supposed work ethic/leadership can’t be passed on.

You don’t often find yourself in a position to add that to your locker room, and you have to take advantage. With this pick, the Panthers are one step closer to returning to contention. He’ll have CMC, Robby Anderson, and DJ Moore already on this roster and the Panthers have the picks to add even more weapons for Fields.

Carolina could very well trade out of this spot or take a stalwart OT like Rashawn Slater instead. Neither of those moves would surprise me. But Fields wouldn’t either.
