Denver Broncos: Full first-round mock draft with a QB at 9?

The 49ers and Kyle Shanahan, specifically, have gotten a lot of guff for this rumor getting out.

Why would they take Mac Jones over Justin Fields or even Trey Lance? As a matter of fact, at this point, it doesn’t even seem like Fields is being considered for this selection as it’s been reported that it’s down to Jones or Lance.

Kyle Shanahan’s offense has worked great for guys like Matt Ryan, Jimmy Garoppolo, Kirk Cousins, and plenty of others throughout the years who might have “just enough” athleticism at the position, but certainly, the majority of NFL pundits feel like the Shanahan offense could go to the next level with an athlete like Fields or Lance running it.

The 49ers are looking for an instant starter at the position, which seems to indicate that the pick will be Jones. Why?

Well, if they’re not taking Justin Fields here, Trey Lance has only played one exhibition game over the last year. Is he a week one starter in the NFL?

I suppose that’s up to his next team, but with the way Kyle Shanahan talked about the position for the 49ers, the pick will almost undoubtedly be Mac Jones.
